What is pansexual? What is bisexual? What’s the difference?

everyday-feminism:

Pansexual:

  • attracted to people of all genders
  • NOT “GENDER BLIND”
  • not attracted to EVERYone or everything
  • does not include fetishistic attraction (the “pan-” refers to genders, just like “homo-” or “hetero-” or “bi-” or whatever else)
  • no but seriously. fetishes are almost always named with “-philia” anyway
  • not attracted to pans. that joke is probably older than you think
  • not attracted to bread
  • not attracted to half-goat mythical creatures
  • seriously those are all unoriginal and rude and ignorant and boring
  • not the same as bisexuality, but there is overlap
  • broader than most other orientations, but not less oppressive or otherwise superior
  • IT IS AN ORIENTATION I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS NEEDS SAYING OMG (it’s not some special paradigm where you love people for ~ who they are inside ~ — that’s what everyone does)
  • don’t listen to Wikipedia or the Oxford English Dictionary. they’re both really bad.
  • liking trans* and/or intersex people does not distinguish pansexuality from any other orientation, and thinking it does is cissexist
  • PANSEXUAL PEOPLE CAN HAVE GENDER- AND/OR SEX-BASED PREFERENCES!!!!

Bisexual:

  • attracted to people of two or more genders, which can include nonbinary genders
  • NOT INHERENTLY CISSEXIST
  • not inferior to pansexuality
  • liking trans* people does not make you less bi. at all. same goes for intersex.
  • not limited to cis women and men
  • not “attracted to ‘both’ genders,” because “both genders” is not a real thing

The difference:

  • bisexuality and pansexuality can overlap
  • the difference between pansexuality and bisexuality is that ALL pansexuals are attracted people of all genders. Only some bisexuals are.
  • "attracted to both genders" is the best known definition of bisexuality, problematic as it is. the difference between that definition and pansexuality is STILL not binary-identified trans* people or intersex people. Neutrois and genderqueer are some examples of actual genders that would actually be a distinction. (but if you’re explaining that, you should probably explain the more inclusive definition of bisexuality, too)
  • you don’t HAVE to identify as bisexual or pansexual or anything else if you don’t want to
  • you can identify as both if you want to, though
  • queer is another nice, applicable label, and so is polysexual (attracted to two or more genders — so the same as the inclusive definition of bisexuality, but calling more attention to the multiplicity of genders within the word itself)

(I identify as pansexual, polysexual, and queer. I’m cis and not intersex, so that’s where I’m coming from. Please call me out if I’ve gotten anything wrong.)

How Breasts Can Look
A little while back, I made a post about the Reality of Nude Photos, and the public reaction that really surprised me in response was that it seemed like a lot of people had never actually seen a female body in different positions like that before. Lots of people didn’t believe that both of the images in that post were really me, because my breasts looked so different in the two pictures.
And that really stuck with me. Not any kind of frustration at the disbelief I received, but a genuinely eye-opening realization that people didn’t know what breasts can look like when they’re just flopped around in a picture or looked at from a different side.
I certainly don’t have the same breasts as every other woman out there, so this is in no way meant to represent all of womankind. Not by a long shot. Breasts come in all shapes and sizes and each woman is unique in the way that they will stretch, sag, move, bounce, and so on. Women have different nipples, different sized areolae, and very differently shaped breasts.
These are my breasts. 12 photos of them just hanging out and doing their thing. Every woman in the world could make this photo chart and it would be a little bit different each time. And in my opinion, that is one of the most wonderful and amazing things about the human body.

this makes me so happy
